Rocking Horse Bakery is located in a historic building in the heart of downtown Winthrop, Washington, on the banks of the Methow and Chewuch Rivers.

Since opening in 2003, Rocking Horse is the place to meet friends, drink amazing coffee and enjoy food made with love and attention to detail. We serve a wide variety of wholesome, handmade baked goods such as pastries, cookies, cakes and breads, including gluten free items. Rocking Horse’s innovative kitchen staff create unique and interesting sandwiches, salads, pizza, and soups. In addition, we offer a full espresso bar and specialty drinks.  Our menu is ever evolving due to the ongoing dedication of our Bakers and Chefs to deliver only the finest quality food. We encourage guests to enjoy our wonderful collection of local historic artifacts (many on loan from the Shafer Museum) and take in the lovely views of the rivers. Rocking Horse Bakery is happy to provide WiFi for customers.

The People

Rocking Horse Bakery has been locally owned and operated in downtown Winthrop since 2003. Steve and Teresa Mitchell purchased the bakery from its founders in 2010. In 2019 Mark and Carolyn Westerfield purchased the bakery and added their son, Christopher Westerfield as the manager and experienced bread baker. Carolyn had been the owner operator of Delphina’s Artisan bakery in Portland. Christopher has 25 years experience as an artisan baker. The Westerfield’s began their Methow experience in 1971 shortly after Mark’s discharge from the military. They made the move as permanent residents in 2015.
